To conclude the installation, you need to deploy the Tag Manager script. You can easily do this by using the Cookie Saver tag template.
This guide explains how to deploy the Tag Manager script using a tag template in Google Tag Manager. It consists of importing the Cookie Saver Configuration tag template and configuring it.
The use of a tag template eases the deployment process, as it does not involve any code. However, if you wish to deploy the script manually, please, refer to this article.
Note: You will still need the PRELOAD script to be in place. Make sure that you deployed the Preload script before continuing.
The process
1. Import the Cookie Saver Configuration Tag Template
In GTM, go to your Tags and click 'New'.
At the top of the screen, click the 'Discover more tag type in the Community Template Gallery'.
Search for Cookie Saver and click the 'Cookie Saver Configuration' Tag Template.
Click 'Add to workspace'.
The Cookie Saver Tag Template requires a set of privileges in order to load the Cookie Saver library and monitor your website cookies. Click 'Add' to continue.
The Cookie Saver Tag Template is now imported to your workspace. In the Tag overview under the Custom section, select the Cookie Saver Configuration Tag Template.
2. Configure, add cookies and deploy
Name the Tag Template appropriately (Cookie Saver is a phenomenal name for this).
Add your endpoint (the subdomain that you entered when you created the setup in your Cookie Saver account). If you have multiple subdomains, it makes sense to use a lookup variable and reference that variable here. See more here: Multiple Domains.
Now, add any cookie that you would like Cookie Saver to extend.
When adding cookies, a few options appear. Here, you can add the Google Analytics cookies, Facebook cookies, or Google Ads cookies that you wish to save. If you have no idea about which cookies to save, you can start by identifying which cookies that have been affected by ITP.
If you need different configuration values, you can read more about how to add cookies to your configuration.
For the Trigger, select 'All Pages'.
That's it.
What´s next?
Congratulations! You have now completed the installation and should have Cookie Saver up and running.
Validation
As a last step, you may want to check that everything is working correctly and implemented lawfully. To do so, please, visit the Validation section.
