It is recommended to view the numbers on a month-by-month basis. There are two ways to go about this:
- Choose one month that is representative of your average or,
- Compute the average of multiple months.
Either way, the general formula is:
Monthly ITP users =
[(Total of Safari 12+ users on desktop) + (Total of iOS14+ users)] / Number of months
1. Check your Safari 12+ users (desktop) count
- Navigate ‘Audience’ > ‘Technology’ > ‘Browser & OS’ > Primary dimension: ‘Browser’
- Choose a period of one or more months. E.g., 1 or 5 months
- Click on ‘Safari’
- Add the secondary dimension ‘Device category’
- Click ‘advanced’ on the side of the search bar (Advanced Filter)
- Include condition ‘Browser Version’ > Matching REgExp > ^12|^13|^14|^15
- Click on 'Add a dimension or metric'
- Include condition ‘Device Category’ > Exactly Matching > ‘desktop’
- Click ‘Apply’
- Note down the total number of ‘Users’.
This is the count of your Safari 12+ users on desktop.
You can also get an idea of the monthly trend by using the graph under 'Explorer' > 'Summary'. Change the graph interval to ‘Month’ and make sure it is a line graph.
Example (Google Analytics Demo account)
For the examples, we use the GA Demo account - UA Google Merchandise Store.
Date range: June 1, 2021 to Oct 31, 2021 (5 months)
Users: 11 148 (Total count of Safari 12+ users on desktop)
2. Check your iOS14+ users count
- Navigate back to the main Browser & OS view 'ALL'
- Change the primary dimension to ‘Operating System’
- Click on ‘iOS’
- Click ‘advanced’ on the side of the search bar (Advanced Filter)
- Include condition ‘Operating System Version’ > Matching REgExp > ^14|^15
- Click ‘Apply’
- Note down the total number of ‘Users’.
This is the count of your iOS14+ users.
Same as before, you can get an idea of the monthly trend by using the graph under 'Explorer' > 'Summary'. Change the graph interval to ‘Month’ and make sure it is a line graph.
Example (Google Analytics Demo account)
Date range: June 1, 2021 to Oct 31, 2021 (5 months)
Users: 45 295 (Total count of iOS14+ users)
3. Compute the total count of monthly ITP users
Finally, sum (a) the number of Safari 12+ users on desktop + (b) the number of iOS14+ users. Then, divide it by the number of months you set.
Monthly ITP users = [(Total of Safari 12+ desktop users) + (Total of iOS14+ users)] / Number of months
This is the number of your users that use ITP and from who you are missing data.
Example
Monthly ITP users = (45 295 + 11 148) / 5 = 56 443 (total of ITP users) / 5 (number of months) = 11 289.
As the monthly number of ITP users exceeds 10 000, the most suitable plan for this case would be the Medium plan - up to 50 000 users. You can find all the Cookie Saver plans with pricing here.
